<p>Weak ties are strong. Steven Johnson suggests that weak ties help promote <a href="https://publish.obsidian.md/mobydiction/notes/%C2%B6+Expatation">exaptation</a> of ideas, and force encounters with alternative “idea spaces.”</p>
<p>The concept "strength of weak ties" comes from a 1973 essay by Mark S. Granovetter.</p>
