Supporting innovation requires organizations adopt new methods of investment decision-making and innovation accounting. This means linking investing to specific, incremental goals rather than funding a long-term project up front.
Making incremental bets with metered funding can de-risk innovation. But, this must be done well: you need to be clear about who is responsible for making these decisions, and ensure that they are senior enough that they can make meaningful decisions and that they are close enough to the innovation teams to make good decisions.
